The idea

Food is better when it's shared.

We're a group of friends in Oxford who love cooking, eating, and bringing people together. Pass the Plates is our excuse to share our passion for good food and good company.

We've always cooked for people. Friends, family, anyone who'd show up. Big pots, long tables, evenings that turned into something more than just dinner. Some of us cook, some of us bake, some of us just make sure everyone feels at home. Between us we've always found a way to feed a crowd.

Pass the Plates grew out of that. The idea that a good meal, shared properly, has a way of bringing people together without anyone really trying. We started hosting bigger and bigger dinners, and somewhere along the way it became a thing.

Now we cook seasonal food from local ingredients, set one long table, and open the doors to anyone who wants a good meal and good company. Most evenings there's something alongside the food too. It changes every time. But the table is always the same. Long, full, and loud by the end of the night.

The evening

What to expect

Arrive and settle in

Come as you are. There's a drink waiting and no agenda. The evening starts slowly on purpose.

One long table

Everyone sits together. No separate groups, no reserved spots. Just one table and whoever's ended up next to you.

Pass the plates

Seasonal courses made from local ingredients, cooked from scratch. Sometimes that's us in the kitchen, sometimes it's someone we've invited in. Either way, dishes arrive and travel the table. Take what you want, pass the rest.

Something to get stuck into

Sometimes there's something alongside the food. A game, a workshop, something a bit unexpected. Sometimes the dinner is enough on its own.

Save room for pud

We always makes sure there's something worth saving room for. The evening ends slowly, and there's no rush to be anywhere.
